Columnist Molly Ivins died on January 31, 2007. For millions of us who read her columns, who learned from her insight, found relief in her unending and intelligent humor and were inspired by her courageous communication, her absence is a great loss. We were not ready to stop reading--or needing--Miss Molly. In her January 14th column in Fort Worth's Star Telegram, Ivins wrote:
There's only one way to describe Ivins, the human being, writer and communicator. She was the best. Thank you, Molly, for the tremendous difference you made.
"We are the people who run this country. We are the deciders. And every single day, every single one of us needs to step outside and take some action to help stop this war.
"Raise hell. Think of something to make the ridiculous look ridiculous. Make our troops know we're for them and are trying to get them out of there. Hit the streets to protest Bush's proposed surge. We need people in the streets, banging pots and pans and demanding, 'Stop it, now!'"
John Moritz wrote a good article about Ivins in the Star Telegram, which you can find unencumbered through a Google search or can access by registering at the Star Telegram website. There's only one way to describe Ivins, the human being, writer and communicator.
